The following are guidelines for student behaviour:
1. Be happy
- Have a positive and pro-active attitude towards your classmates and your own personal success. Winners do not quit!
2. Be respectful
- Of classmates, staff members, yourself and of the instruments in the music room.
- Disrespectful behavior will result in lunch-time detention. If repeated, a student will be assigned a Behavior form and referred to the appropriate administrator.
3. Do your best
- Students are expected to listen, participate and demonstrate their knowledge to the best of their abilities.
- Many of the concepts introduced this year are instrumental concepts: tuning an instrument, reading chord charts and basic strumming. These skills will be evaluated through informal performance tests based on criteria decided upon by the teacher and the students.
- Any student who feels they do not understand the material well enough to do their best work is encouraged to tell Miss Ready right away. Extra help is offered once a week at lunch time. Students who appear to be struggling will be asked to attend extra help until caught up.
- Homework is assigned only when in-class time was not sufficient to cover activities or material. When incomplete homework is presented, a student will receive a lunch-time detention for the day of or the following day to complete the work.
This includes coming in for extra ukulele practice time if class time is not sufficient to master a skill. If the work is completed overnight, the student will still have a detention. Incomplete assignments will show up as a zero on the report card.
When homework is consistently incomplete, students will be assigned a Behavior Form and referred to the appropriate administrator. - Any behaviour percieved to be malicious or violent in nature, i.e. causing damage to school property, physical violence or uttering threats, will result in immediate dismissal from class and referral to an administrator.
